Overview

If you are not using GNOME in Linux, you will probably see the following error message when trying to launch Google Chrome.

$ google-chrome
Gkr-Message: 19:01:13.179: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files

Solution

Install the package gnome-keyring to solve the above error no matter which graphical desktop environment you are using (KDE, XFCE4, etc).

sudo apt install gnome-keyring

Now Chrome should start without problems.
